Unai Emery isn’t at all fondly remembered by Arsenal supporters.
The Spaniard had a torrid time at the Emirates after replacing Arsene Wenger. Arsenal reaching the Europa League final in his first season papered over the cracks, but his methods were exposed in his second campaign.
Emery will have his own reasons for failing to get the best out of his Arsenal side. One of those may well be that Edu and Raul Sanllehi could not deliver his list of transfer targets.
Everyone knows that Emery preferred Wilfried Zaha over Nicolas Pepe. That will be his first complaint, but it won’t stop there. The former Arsenal boss also demanded the signing of Christopher Nkunku from PSG, but he got Denis Suarez on loan instead. (Standard)
Looking back now, that was a big mistake. Suarez’s time at the Emirates was woeful, while Nkunku moved on to RB Leipzig and the versatile Frenchman has become a star in the Bundesliga.
Nkunku is one of the best midfielders in Germany now
In his debut season in the Bundesliga, Nkunku scored five goals and provided a staggering 16 assists in all competitions. He was one of the best players in the league last term, and he is going strong this season as well.
The Frenchman has played in six different positions this term. He has scored seven goals and has provided eight assists in all competitions, and if things go his way, he will end the season with tremendous figures again.
Nkunku is one of RB Leipzig’s most important players. However, they might not be able to keep hold of him beyond the end of this season.
Sky Germany claim that the former PSG man could be drawn to the Premier League this summer, with Arsenal mentioned as the club who have been keeping an eye on him ever since he was at Paris Saint-Germain.
Nkunku to replace Odegaard?
One of Arsenal’s biggest priorities in this summer’s transfer window will be to retain the services of Martin Odegaard.
The Real Madrid man has been incredible ever since he joined us on loan. Mikel Arteta absolutely loves him and there is no doubt that he and Edu will do everything they possibly can to sign him on a permanent deal this summer.
However, Real Madrid may well decide to give him another opportunity to prove himself at the Bernabeu.
That will be a big blow to Arsenal, but there are plenty of other exceptional players we can consider to replace Odegaard – one of them is Nkunku.
If the Frenchman is available on the market, Arsenal should seriously consider making a move for him this summer. He is still only 23, he’s incredibly talented and he can play anywhere in attack and in central midfield.
Nkunku will provide Arteta a ton of options every single game. His numbers show just how good he is, and if Arsenal cannot agree a deal with Real Madrid to sign Odegaard permanently, Emery’s 2019 target would be a fantastic alternative.
