£45m Arsenal star is running out of chances – he was shocking in 1-1 draw with Fulham

Arsenal certainly failed to make the most of Liverpool not playing and Manchester City dropping points during their own 1-1 draw with Fulham.

A visit to Craven Cottage is becoming something of an issue for Arsenal who also lost this same fixture last season.

Fortunately, Mikel Arteta’s side weren’t quite as abject as they were on that occasion – Arsenal were still comfortably the better team against Fulham.

However, Marco Silva’s side defended resolutely and despite the best efforts of Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard, the Gunners were rarely able to create a chance aside from set-pieces.

Context needs to be kept – Fulham have been seriously impressive this season, but Arsenal still missed a big chance to win, and several attacking players underperformed.

Gabriel Jesus delivered his worst performance yet for Arsenal in Fulham draw

In truth, all of Kai Havertz, Leandro Trossard and Bukayo Saka could be criticised to some degree – Arsenal’s starting front three.

All were working hard and improved in the second half, but none could make the difference.

Of course, changing the game was the task of Gabriel Jesus among Arsenal’s other substitutes in the second half.

And whilst he was involved immediately, Jesus delivered a seriously poor performance, one that will do him no favours in terms of pushing for start.

Soon after coming on, Jesus was delivered a delightful over-the-top ball by Declan Rice, one he simply let bounce to Bernd Leno, even though it looked to be in reach for all watching on.

Thereafter, the striker was wasteful almost every time he touched the ball – he wasn’t at the races whatsoever.

To his credit, Jesus has always been so determined and energetic when he’s been given the slightest chance, even if his finishing often lets those efforts down.

But against Fulham, the Brazilian was devoid of any quality at all.

Should Arsenal sell Gabriel Jesus in January?

Back in 2022, Arsenal paid £45m for Jesus, a signing from Manchester City who marked a new era at the Emirates Stadium.

Jesus, a four-time Premier League winner, was meant to provide the experience and tenacity that Arsenal had been lacking.

And in fairness, he did for a while, but the striker now seems to be lacking any real confidence, something you can definitely forgive him for given the circumstances.

But how long can Arsenal keep trying with Jesus? When is it time to move on?

It’s unlikely to be a situation that can be resolved in January, but it’s certainly not one that is benefiting the club right now, even if Jesus is still an excellent striker when he’s firing on all cylinders.
