Aaron Ramsdale is set to return to Arsenal for the first time since leaving for Southampton on transfer deadline day.

The Englishman spent three years at the Emirates after joining the club from Sheffield United in 2021. He didn’t get the love he would’ve wanted when he first signed, but he quickly became a fan favourite.

Arsenal fans were sad to see Ramsdale leave the club in the summer, but it was the best move for all parties following David Raya’s arrival on a permanent deal.

Now, Ramsdale will be hoping to prove a point when he returns to Arsenal with Southampton on Saturday.

How Arsenal fans can ruin Aaron Ramsdale’s Emirates return

Ramsdale is almost guaranteed to get a warm welcome when he returns to the Emirates on Saturday.

The Englishman is still adored by several Gooners, and there are absolutely no hard feelings between the two parties despite the transfer in the summer.

Some Arsenal fans are even worried that Ramsdale will have an incredible game in goal on Saturday – the stage is definitely set for that to happen.

However, Mikel Arteta will be keen to avoid that, and Arsenal fans in the stadium could help him out.

Ramsdale made a surprise admission in May 2023 when he claimed that he just cannot concentrate for the full 90 minutes when he is on the pitch.

He said in a video on Premier League’s YouTube channel: “If you ask me to focus on a game of football for 90 minutes, I’m finished. I can’t do it. So that’s why I get involved with the fans and I sing along with the songs.

“If someone’s giving me abuse, I’ll turn around and give them a bit back. I have had my two-three minutes of sort of madness in my head – straight back to the football. I’ve got 10-15 minutes of pure concentration again. Next thing you know, half-time is around.”

Southampton already have one of the worst defences in the Premier League having conceded 12 goals in six games. If Arsenal fans behind Ramsdale’s goal can distract him, the Gunners could destroy the Saints on Saturday.

Arsenal could target Ramsdale by doing one thing

Arteta came under a lot of criticism when he decided to drop Ramsdale for David Raya in September 2023. It wasn’t a popular decision at all.

However, the Arsenal manager has been proven right, and one of the biggest areas in which Raya is better than Ramsdale is collecting the ball inside the box.

Ramsdale struggled with that on more than one occasion at Arsenal, especially during corners and set-pieces. Many teams targeted the Englishman.

Arsenal could do the same on Saturday, and we’re sure Nicolas Jover has a few tricks up his sleeve to give the Gunners an edge over Ramsdale.
