Meanwhile, Martinelli made his return by replacing Bukayo Saka, sealing the win after he beat Manuel Neuer to the ball and then had an empty net to score into.
The Gunners’ captain, Odegaard, also made his long-awaited return from injury as yet another sign of just how many options Arteta now has at his disposal.
