Arsenal could make the signing of the summer for free; Mikel Arteta’s wanted him for years

Arsenal are expected to be busy in the transfer market this summer but some of their best business might end up coming in the free market.

Money has already been spent on Christos Tzolis, while a big-money deal involving Bruno Guimaraes is also continuing to gather pace.

Aside from that, a free transfer for England defender John Stones is also being lined up.

But while Stones represents a solid signing for no transfer fee, there is another free agent who could top Stones’ signing.

And that man is Dusan Vlahovic.

Arsenal should finally sign Dusan Vlahovic

It’s no secret that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Dusan Vlahovic. Arsenal came close to signing the Serbian a few seasons ago and have maintained an interest ever since.

In fact, there was a point where a deal was more or less done before Juventus swooped in and signed him.

However, Vlahovic is now available on a free transfer and with Arsenal wanting to make fresh signings this summer, the time seems better than ever to make a move.

Viktor Gyokeres has impressed in his first season with the club while Arteta remains a big fan of Kai Havertz up front as well.

But with Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli potentially moving on and Leandro Trossard’s goals already lost from the squad, signing Vlahovic for nothing makes sense.

Sure, he’d have to accept that he might be second or even third fiddle. However, it’s clear that he has not been at his very very best for some time now, hence him being out of contract and not many of Europe’s biggest clubs seemingly keen.

Nevertheless, Vlahovic has managed 88 goals in the last five seasons and he hit double figures last term too, despite not being at his best.

When all is said and done, if Arsenal are ever to go and sign Vlahovic, then the time is now.
