Arsenal could now make a signing that will make up for missing out on Antoine Semenyo

Arsenal have had some painful transfer near misses in recent years.

Moises Caicedo could’ve been an Arsenal player at one point, while Arsenal missed out on Ollie Watkins a couple of years ago too.

However, perhaps the most painful transfer near miss in recent times has been the Gunners’ failed pursuit of Antoine Semenyo last season.

Semenyo was linked to almost every club in the Premier League last year, but, in the end, he joined Manchester City in January.

Semenyo became an instant star at City, he scored the winner in the FA Cup final, and he very nearly took City to a Premier League title.

Meanwhile, the left wing spot remains a real weakness for Arsenal, but that could be about to change.

Indeed, Arsenal are in the market for a new left winger, and according to Fabrizio Romano, there’s a new, exciting target in the Gunners’ sights.

Arsenal want Yan Diomande

According to Romano, speaking on his YouTube channel, Arsenal have made a call about signing Yan Diomande.

“For example, just to give you some context, Arsenal over the last few days made some checks with the agents of Yan Diomande from Red Bull Leipzig to understand if there was still a chance to enter the deal.

“But don’t forget Diomande has an agreement on personal terms with Paris Saint-Germain, and Paris Saint-Germain are in negotiations with Leipzig.

“But, for example, Arsenal made some calls to understand the situation of Diomande, just to give you context of what happened over the recent days.”

It sounds like there’s some way to go on this transfer, but this is an exciting one.

Much like Semenyo, Diomande is a two-footed attacker who can play on either wing, loves to beat his man and has a serious eye for goal.

To make things even better, Diomande is even younger than Semenyo, so you could argue his ceiling is even higher.

Missing out on Semenyo in January was a blow for Arsenal, but that will quickly be forgotten if Diomande comes in and performs to the level he’s capable of performing to.
