Arsenal should abandon Ivan Toney pursuit for striker available for 85% cheaper

Arsenal have long been linked with Brentford’s Ivan Toney, but they could sign a strong alternative for a fraction of the price.

It has been mooted that Toney could cost £100m to prize away from Brentford, despite the forward not playing a minute of football since the end of last season as he is serving a ban until mid-January.

Given that Toney now appears to be happy to stay at Brentford, Arsenal will be better served looking for an alternative, and the perfect option may have emerged in Stuttgart striker Serhou Guirassy.

Arsenal should target Serhou Guirassy over Ivan Toney

Guirassy has been in outstanding form for Stuttgart this season, scoring an astonishing 15 goals in 10 games so far, and the 27-year-old is one of the most in-form forwards in Europe this season.

He has now scored 30 goals in 39 games for Stuttgart across all competitions, and his deadly form in front of goal could make him the perfect alternative to Gabriel Jesus upfront.

Arsenal have been told that they need a striker if they are to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title this season, and whilst Jesus is an incredible option in terms of his work in build-up play, Guirassy could be the perfect goalscorer to complement him.

One key positive of Guirassy compared to Toney is that, as per TEAMtalk, he has a £15m release clause.

This remarkably makes him 85% cheaper than Toney, and is almost a risk-free deal at that price.

Arsenal have been linked with Victor Osimhen, and if they have to wait until the summer to land what could be their main target, Guirassy could be the perfect option to give the team a short-term boost.

At £15m, there will be little to lose on gambling on Guirassy to come in and have an instant impact, and the fee would not prevent a summer move for another option in Osimhen.

His goal record this season is an outlier in his career, which has seen him score at a good, but not standout rate, but he has hit an incredible level of output in this campaign.

He has remarkably scored in eight of his 10 league appearances this season, and scored more than once in six of those games.

Guirassy and Toney are the same age, Guirassy has the better goal record and is match-fit and in the best form of his career. The respective price difference between the two players makes choosing the Bundesliga forward a no-brainer if Mikel Arteta is offered the choice.
