Arsenal should now look to sign 27-year-old Arsene Wenger wanted for just £1m

There have been surprising developments in recent days as it appears that Arsenal want to add another striker to their ranks.

Arsenal already have Gabriel Jesus, Eddie Nketiah, Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard as central striking options, but have been linked with Ivan Toney and Ollie Watkins in recent days.

If Mikel Arteta is keen to add a centre-forward to his squad, there is one alternative name he could turn to, at a much lower cost than both Englishmen.

Why do Arsenal want a striker?

Criticism has been levelled at Jesus and Nketiah in recent days, after both forwards missed chances in the North London Derby.

Some have argued that a goalscoring forward would be an excellent addition to the squad, either in place of one of the forwards or alongside them.

With Toney and Watkins both expected to cost significant fees, it can be argued that neither improve the squad beyond what Jesus offers, and both may not be worthwhile signings in the long run.

However, there remains a third 27-year-old goalscorer that Arteta can turn to instead of Toney or Watkins, in the form of Sehrou Guirassy.

Why should Arsenal consider a move for Guirassy?

The Stuttgart striker has remarkably scored 10 goals in five Bundesliga games this season, and he is well known to Arsenal, having been linked with a £1m move to Arsene Wenger’s side back in 2016, when he was just 20.

Guirassy has scored 25 goals in 34 games for Stuttgart in total, but has moderate goal records through the rest of his career. However, given his sheer pace and finishing ability, he could turn out to be a late bloomer like Jamie Vardy.

The striker even has a €20m (£17.3m) release clause in his contract, making him a much cheaper option than Toney or Watkins.

It remains to be seen whether he can continue scoring at his current rate, but if Arsenal do decide to add to their ranks at centre-forward, he should be considered as an option before spending a potentially huge fee on Toney or Watkins.
