Arsenal’s transfer strategy needs to change immediately or they’ll never be like Man City

It’s safe to say that Arsenal have splashed the cash in the last few years in the transfer market.

Big signings like Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi have taken Arsenal’s spending since Mikel Arteta took over to north of £1bn.

That spending is not slowing down anytime soon either. A deal for Bruno Guimaraes is being worked on while the Gunners have just spent around £40m on Christos Tzolis.

Nevertheless, while there’s been plenty of success in the market for Arsenal, this summer has highlighted a worrying trend again.

And put frankly, it’s something that needs sorting if Arsenal ever want to be dominant.

Arsenal have to change or they’ll keep missing out on big players

There is a nervousness among some Arsenal fans now when it comes to the transfer window.

Missing out on Morgan Rogers to Chelsea has hit the club hard and with the Bruno Guimaraes deal not done yet either, some are worrying things will not progress.

Worryingly for the Gunners, there are reports that Aston Villa became increasingly annoyed with the Gunners and how they did their business.

As well as not wanting to meet the asking price Villa had, it’s also suggested that Arsenal’s use of multiple intermediaries also caused Villa to become aggravated.

With the Rogers deal failing and now the Guimaraes talks also not advancing as some would like, it begs the question of if Arsenal will ever get to Man City’s level.

We’ve seen this summer how City simply went out and signed Elliott Anderson with minimal fuss, while deals to sign players like Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and more recently, Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi, have all been done quickly and without much noise.

Of course, City have the resources to get things done quickly and anyone in talks with City is never doing to fail to agree personal terms.

But in terms of the speed and efficiency that City do business, it’s something Arsenal can learn from.

With City potentially losing Rodri to Real Madrid as well, Arsenal fans will be fearful that they’ll now swoop in for Guimaraes as well.

Arsenal, then, need to get their act together and ensure Guimaraes is signed without issue.
