Well, that’s that then. After restoring some pride at Stamford Bridge last Wednesday we’ve been embarrassed again on our travels.
What makes this defeat worse is the fact that we actually went ahead first and like Bournemouth in the same fixture last season, we were stupid enough to let them back into it.
First off I think it’s clear that Petr Cech won’t be up for a man of the match award. Time and time again he makes silly, costly mistakes which show how much of a decline he’s had since joining us back in 2015. Maybe, just maybe, we should have held onto Szczesny after he kept the second most clean sheets in Serie A last season.
Anyway, lets get into who kind of impressed at the Vitality yesterday:
The first player up is Jack Wilshere. A doubt after picking up a knock against Chelsea in midweek, he played well on his return to Bournemouth.
He showed his quality on the ball with some nice interlinking play with Alex Iwobi as well as driving up the pitch with ease, at times ghosting past four Bournemouth players with one move.
He also did well to break up play in midfield but unfortunately picked up a yellow card for his efforts.
Next is Alex Iwobi. This past week has seen him come under very heavy criticism but he has responded well.
He hasn’t set the world alight but following up a mostly composed performance at Stamford Bridge, Iwobi showed his class on the ball in tight spaces as well as picking up a great assist for Hector Bellerin with a nicely weighted through ball in behind the home defence.
Our man of the match goes to our goalscorer. After a pretty mediocre first half of the season, Bellerin’s form seems to be picking up nicely and he has been rewarded with two goals in two Premier League games.
