Arsenal picked up a dominant 5-1 win over Bolton Wanderers in the EFL Cup.
The Gunners had a bit of a heartbreak after conceding a late equaliser against Manchester City on Sunday. But, Mikel Arteta’s men did not let that affect them against Bolton.
Declan Rice opened the scoring with a great goal from outside the box in the first half before Ethan Nwaneri doubled Arsenal’s lead.
The teenager scored again after the break and he was joined on the scoresheet by Raheem Sterling and Kai Havertz to give Arsenal a 5-1 win.
A number of other players impressed too at the Emirates even though they didn’t get on the score sheet. Myles Lewis-Skelly is one of them.
Oleksandr Zinchenko’s Arsenal career could come to an end very soon
Arsenal signed Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City in the summer of 2022.
The Ukraine international had an instant impact at the Emirates. He played a huge part in helping the Gunners become title contenders and was very impressive in his debut season too.
However, since the start of the last campaign, Zinchenko’s form has not been great and injuries have not helped him either.
Zinchenko is currently out injured as well and Arteta confirmed in his press conference that he will be out for a few more weeks, which is a big shame.
Arsenal now have Riccardo Calafiori at left-back, while Jurrien Timber has played brilliantly there as well. To add to that, Lewis-Skelly was deployed in that position against Bolton in the EFL Cup and he looked really good.
That complicates things for Zinchenko when he returns – there may not be a place for him in the side anymore. Calafiori, Timber and Lewis-Skelly are all defensively more solid than he is and are perhaps ahead of him in the pecking order at this point.
To add to that, Zinchenko will enter the final year of his contract at the end of this season, which means Arsenal have a decision to make on his future.
We think Arsenal will cash in on Zinchenko in one of the next two windows. He is a ‘brilliant‘ player on his day, but he has unfortunately become surplus to requirements at the Emirates.

Myles Lewis-Skelly’s stats vs Bolton
Arteta handed Lewis-Skelly his first-ever start for Arsenal against Bolton, and the youngster was asked to play as a left-back.
The Hale End graduate looked extremely comfortable from the first minute of the game, and it was his through ball to Sterling that led to Nwaneri’s goal.
Lewis-Skelly had 76 touches of the ball and completed 55 of his 61 attempted passes, thus maintaining an impressive 90 per cent passing accuracy.
The youngster also created one chance, won all of his aerial duels and wasn’t dribbled past a single time in the entire game (Sofascore).
Lewis-Skelly proved against Bolton that he is the future, and that is bad news for Zinchenko, who could be on his way out very soon.
