Like after Thursday’s game we’re quite limited in the choices we have for yesterday’s man of the match.
If you read my preview you’d know I wasn’t that surprised that we scraped that win at Turf Moor, but I am surprised at how pedestrian everything was.
With such an energetic performance in the North London Derby last weekend, it wasn’t too much to ask for a similar performance this time around but hey, three points are still three points whichever way you get them.
The first special mention for yesterday’s win though goes to three men. Our back three of Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi and Nacho Monreal. As much credit as the AOL get for their performances together this season, the back three also deserve a shout for their efforts.
This would be no more apparent than yesterday when they helped us to a match winning clean sheet. That win also extended the trio’s run to five games without conceding together which is impressive when you see that includes games against Chelsea and Spurs.
With the clean sheet being so valuable yesterday one man that also has to get a mention is Petr Cech. His goal may not have been peppered by Burnley but when he was called upon, he did his job.
Two great saves in the first half, when Burnley were looking most dangerous were essential for us to go and win the game late on.
Being very honest, nobody had the game of their lives yesterday, but with every three points comes a match winner. For us yesterday, that player was Alexis Sanchez.
Almost in a repeat of our last meeting with Burnley an injury time penalty would give him the chance to secure the three points for us, this time the difference being his penalty was driven instead of dinked.
