Since leaving Arsenal after a disastrous loan spell, goalkeeper Neto is receiving some awful feedback in Brazil.
Edu Gaspar made some questionable transfers when he was Arsenal’s sporting director, and two of the worst came on deadline day of the 2024 summer transfer window.
There was excitement going into deadline day, but any thrill faded when the two signings Edu delivered were the loan captures of Raheem Sterling and Neto.
Sterling’s loan was a disaster, and somehow, Neto’s was even worse, as Edu signed a cup-tied goalkeeper to play in the cup competitions.
The move was abysmal, even more so when reviewing what has happened to the goalkeeper since.

Who was Edu Gaspar’s worst signing at Arsenal? Willian, Raheem Sterling or someone else?
Former Arsenal goalkeeper Neto is heavily criticised in Brazil after Edu Gaspar’s transfer disaster
Edu’s shock Arsenal exit turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the Gunners, who haven’t looked back since appointing Andrea Berta.
If there’s one thing we’ve already learned about Berta, it’s that he works meticulously in the transfer market, something that can’t be said for Edu based on his deadline day panic buys.
The signing of Neto was bad for several reasons, one being that he was cup-tied, and the simpler one being that he wasn’t at the level required to play for Arsenal.
It’s since been proven that Neto was far from Arsenal’s level, as now that he’s at Botafogo in Brazil, he’s actually shocked commentator Daniel Braune with how poor he is.

As relayed by Sport Witness, Braune didn’t hold back on his assessment of the ex-Arsenal man.
“Nothing has shocked me as much as what we’re seeing with Neto,” he began.
“It’s not that he’s a bad goalkeeper or that he has ups and downs. The impression it gives is that he looks like an outfield player you put in goal because the goalkeeper was sent off, and you have no substitutions left.
“He doesn’t jump, doesn’t position himself. He looks like an object standing there. The ball hits him and rebounds. All the opponent has to do is shoot on target.”
The feedback was absolutely brutal, and for Arsenal, was a reminder of just how bad Edu’s transfer judgment really was.
Edu is experiencing instability at Nottingham Forest that is unlike anything he witnessed at Arsenal
Arsenal fans are glad that Edu has gone, as his exit allowed for Berta to come in.
Finish the sentence: Edu Gaspar’s time at Arsenal was a _____________________
The Brazilian might be feeling differently, however, as since becoming Nottingham Forest’s Global Head of Football, things have gone terribly for Edu.
Since the start of the 2025/26 season, Forest have gone through four managers, which is the same number that Arsenal have appointed since 1996.
It’s instability at a new level for Edu to deal with at the City Ground, proving that sometimes, the grass isn’t greener on the other side.
