Arsenal are on the hunt for a new sporting director following Edu Gaspar’s shock resignation.
The Gunners were stunned by the Brazilian’s swift exit, as he prepares to take on a new challenge under the guidance of Evangelos Marinakis.
Mikel Arteta will have to adapt to life without Edu, who played an integral role in the manager’s resurgence of his squad.
From star signings to reinstalling the culture at Arsenal, the former Gunner will be missed in North London however, fans are still questioning one thing the 46-year-old did in the summer.

Edu told Arsenal fans to ‘be patient’
Very few people would have expected to see Edu to leave the Emirates before 2024 came to an end.
As mentioned, the Brazilian helped deliver some of Arteta’s key players over the years although, not every transfer wish was met.
The 2024 summer transfer window ended with mixed emotions for supporters, as some top talents were signed but a lot was missing.
Just as fans started to give up hope, Edu made a promise to deliver something big to the Emirates, as he said in the final month of the window, “Be patient, you won’t be disappointed at the end.”
Unfortunately, disappointed was what fans ultimately were by deadline day, as the Gunners completed the rather underwhelming loan captures of Neto and Raheem Sterling.
The Chelsea winger, who has made little impact since arriving, was Edu’s final Arsenal transfer, with his summer promise turning out to be a frustrating, but harmless, fib.
A fresh transfer approach is needed
Edu will forever be adored in North London for his contribution to the club both on and off the pitch.
That being said, change is hard but is not always bad and in Arsenal’s case, it might just be necessary.
After narrowing the gap between themselves and Manchester City in 2023/24, the summer transfer window gave the Gunners the space to tweak where required to get their Premier League title dream over the line.
Instead, a rather lacklustre window played out and lo and behold, it’s already clear what is missing from Arteta’s squad.
A fresh viewpoint at the Emirates could be a huge boost for Arsenal’s title credentials, with plenty of targets needing to be delivered to keep progression going.
