Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta must be careful with his transfer moves this summer so as not to risk upsetting Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman.

The Hale End academy duo are firmly part of the future for the club, having shown plenty of promising signs.

It’s up to Mikel Arteta to integrate them into the team, with opportunities few and far between at times due to the need to win trophies now.

If Arsenal are to put their faith in both Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman, then they will make those minutes available where possible.

However, Andrea Berta risks angering both starlets with his latest transfer ploy.

Konstantinos Karetsas to Arsenal move risks annoying Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman

While opportunities need to be made available to both Nwaneri and Dowman in the coming years, they could face even more competition for places in the team.

That’s because recent reports claim that Arsenal want to sign Konstantinos Karetsas, a 17-year-old Greek international who has been tipped for the very top.

The main issue with that move is that Karetsas also plays as an attacking midfielder, who is capable of featuring on the right flank.

It adds yet another promising talent to the squad who will need minutes and experience in one of a few finite positions.

That, in itself, could reduce opportunities for Dowman and Nwaneri, who won’t be thrilled by that prospect.

The Arsenal duo are reaching a point where they need to ramp up their minutes gained, and the possibility of more competition only threatens that.

Arsenal could risk contract troubles for Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman

If there isn’t a clear pathway for the academy talent at Arsenal, then the hierarchy clearly risks losing their best players.

Everyone will want minutes as they progress, and that’s no different for either Nwaneri or Dowman in the years ahead.

Nwaneri has two years left on his contract, with pressure placed on keeping the youngster for even longer beyond that.

Dowman is on a youth deal, and he will be able to sign a professional contract in the years ahead, but could only do so if the project is right.

For that reason, Arsenal must risk the temptation to add even more competition in those places.
