Forget Eze and Gyokeres, Andrea Berta is yet to do his two most important pieces of business at Arsenal

Arsenal fans asked for a big summer transfer window from their club and Andrea Berta certainly delivered.

Arsenal spent in excess of £250m on eight new signings as key issues within Mikel Arteta’s squad were addressed.

Deadline day saw Piero Hincapie become the final signing of the summer, whilst squad players Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira departed the club in order to balance the books.

Viktor Gyokeres filled the void as the centre forward supporters craved and Eberechi Eze has been bought to provide an extra creative spark. However, the two most important deals are still to be finalised by Berta.

Arsenal must secure Bukayo Saka and William Saliba contracts

Despite a summer where the Gunners have accumulated a squad capable of challenging on all four trophy fronts, there are still two burning issues for Berta to solve.

Bukayo Saka and William Saliba are both out of contract in the summer of 2027 and the club cannot afford to let their deals run down until next summer.

It would leave both players in a considerable position of power where Arsenal could be forced to sell them in order to minimise the risk of losing them on a free transfer the following year.

Arsenal are confident Saliba wants to stay at the club, however there is yet to be a significant breakthrough in talks with the French defender wanting a salary reflective of his key role in the team.

There is also strong interest from Real Madrid in the defender – a club that Saliba is known to admire greatly.

It is a similar situation with Saka and Berta cannot make the mistake of thinking this will be an easy negotiation because of the Hale End star’s affinity with the club.

Saka is ambitious and wants to win major honours, if there isn’t a suitable deal on the table, he may well see his future elsewhere.

Winning major trophies is a must to secure the Arsenal futures of Bukayo Saka and William Saliba

Every footballer’s main motivation is to win major honours. Alexander Isak has just left Newcastle under a cloud because he wants success at Liverpool.

Arsenal now have to convince Saka and Saliba that this is the right club to do just that in their short careers.

Both players are world class and deserve to be fighting for the Premier League title and Champions League each season.

Arteta now has to convince the duo that the squad he has assembled is good enough to bring success to North London and that Saka and Saliba can be big parts of that.

If the Gunners were to lose one of their star men, or even both, it would cast a huge doubt over their credentials as serious challengers moving forward.
