Although often linked with Ivan Toney, Arsenal should be targeting the signing of Victor Osimhen to proper Mikel Arteta’s project.

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing the £120m star from Napoli next summer, a player who does have plenty of suitors.

And according to this report, Mikel Arteta is personally a huge fan of Osimhen – hence his interest in bringing him to Arsenal.

Brentford’s Toney remains an excellent signing for Arsenal, one that can add to their goal-scoring up top, but Osimhen could be transformative.

The Napoli striker is of the highest echelon, a player who could have a similar impact as Declan Rice at the Emirates.

When signing Rice, Arsenal knew they were adding one of the world’s best, and he certainly hasn’t disappointed.

And all of the evidence from Osimhen’s time in Italy would suggest that he is a player of Erling Haaland’s level, a cut above Toney.

Arsenal rarely do big business in January under Arteta and Edu Gaspar, leading to the idea that Toney won’t arrive in the near future.

And should Arsenal be prepared to wait until next summer, they should go for broke.

Victor Osimhen would be another statement signing for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta

Osimhen is still only 24-years-old, a player with so much potential to fill.

And although Chelsea are currently considered front-runners for Osimhen, Arsenal do now have considerable pull.

Declan Rice was long coveted by Chelsea, but is now a star at the Emirates.

The race for Toney was always going to be a hot one, but the pursuit of a generational talent like Osimhen could be even bigger.

And whilst it wouldn’t bode well to see Toney rock up at a Premier League rival, Arsenal fans could feel pretty smug if they had Osimhen instead.

And this report suggesting that Arteta does want Osimhen should be the only signal that Arsenal need to act.

The club could well advised to ignore business in January if it did lead to the arrival of another superstar next summer.
