Arsenal fans enjoyed watching the action from the Premier League unfold on matchday 21, but one game would’ve upset Gabriel Martinelli.
While waiting to host Liverpool at the Emirates, Arsenal sat back and watched their rivals play on Wednesday night.
It was a successful evening from an Arsenal fan’s point of view, as Tottenham lost, Chelsea lost, Aston Villa drew, and most importantly, Manchester City dropped points.
The results mean that a win against Liverpool could send Mikel Arteta’s side eight points clear at the top with 17 games to go.
It was a dream night of results for Arsenal, but not everyone would’ve enjoyed what unfolded.

Gabriel Martinelli’s Premier League record has been broken
While Brighton held Man City to a draw and Bournemouth beat Spurs in the last minute, Brentford enjoyed a big win against Sunderland.
The Bees beat the Black Cats 3-0, and one part of the contest would’ve left Gabriel Martinelli gutted.
Igor Thiago added to his incredible scoring tally this season, bagging a brace, taking his Premier League goal count to 16 in 21 appearances.
Fill in the blank: Gabriel Martinelli is worth £__m to Arsenal…
Thiago’s performance was a blow for Martinelli, as the Arsenal winger saw his record get broken.
Martinelli shared the record of the most Premier League goals in a season by a Brazilian player, scoring 15 in 2022/23.
Thiago has surpassed the record Martinelli, Roberto Firmino, and Matheus Cunha shared, and if his form continues, he’ll destroy it.
Igor Thiago’s record magnifies Martinelli’s decline
What is concerning is that Thiago’s 16 goals only reinforce the level that Martinelli was performing at three seasons ago.
Change my mind, Gabriel Martinelli can only save his Arsenal career by becoming a striker.
Since then, the Brazilian hasn’t got close to scoring 15 times in the Premier League, with his best scoring season since being the eight he netted last term.
Of course, Martinelli could react to Thiago breaking his record by attempting to reclaim it, but having scored once in the Premier League this season, it’s already, almost certainly, out of reach.
The numbers Arsenal’s winger has produced in recent years have been underwhelming, but if he can win the Premier League title in May, all will be forgotten.
