Morgan Rogers looks like he is signing for Chelsea in what has come as a shock to many an Arsenal fan.
Rogers had been tipped to sign for the Gunners this summer but with things progressing – or seemingly so – Chelsea have swooped in to agree a deal worth £117m.
For Mikel Arteta, the disappointment of not landing Rogers will be hard to take.
But while there is no doubting the failure to sign Rogers will sting, it might also give one of the current Arsenal squad the kick up the backside he might need to improve his performances even further.
And that man, is Eberechi Eze.
Be honest: Would you have been happy if Arsenal spent £117m on Morgan Rogers?
Eberechi Eze could see Morgan Rogers’ Chelsea move as his time to shine
If you were to speak to a group of Arsenal fans, they would probably be split down the middle as to how good a signing Eberechi Eze has been.
On one hand, Eze made himself an instant hero by scoring multiple goals, including a hat-trick, against Tottenham. Furthermore, Eze’s first season resulted in the title being won, so nobody can argue he had an impact.
However, there will be some out there who suggest that Eze could offer even more in an Arsenal shirt.
We saw glimpses of his brilliance at times last season and interestingly, he played with a great freedom in his game as England beat France 6-4 in the bronze medal match last night.

Now, with Rogers not arriving at The Emirates, Eze must surely see this is a chance to look at Mikel Arteta and say ‘I am your man for that spot out on the left-hand side’.
Eze has played that position before and while he will always prefer being a number ten, he can be just as devastating from that position if he fancies it.
While the Gunners might well go out and seek yet another left-winger, Eze could well be the man to fill the void anyway.
Certainly, if Eze fancies it, then it might end up saving Arsenal a fortune in the market after all.
