Ignore Zubimendi, Arsenal have made another signing this summer that will make Declan Rice score more goals

Arsenal will have taken encouragement from the opening two Premier League fixtures that they can hurt Liverpool at the back.

Arne Slot’s side have thrown away two-goal leads in eventual wins over Bournemouth and Newcastle and Mikel Arteta will have noticed some defensive frailties.

Despite the absence of Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka, the Gunners still have plenty of options going forward with Viktor Gyokeres likely to lead the line.

Arsenal will have plenty of pace in behind the Liverpool defence and a new signing will also help Declan Rice become a bigger threat to Virgil van Dijk and co.

Eberechi Eze taking corners can help Declan Rice score more goals for Arsenal

Paul Merson wants Eberechi Eze to start against Liverpool and make his full debut for the club following his arrival from Crystal Palace.

One of the abilities that Eze will bring to the Arsenal side is his delivery from set-pieces and although Rice has also mastered this skill, he could provide another physical presence in the box.

The Gunners already have the likes of Gabriel Magalhaes and Jurrien Timber attacking the ball with aggression, Rice would add another option for Eze to aim for.

Arteta has challenged Rice to score more goals this season and it is thought that the arrival of Martin Zubimendi would be a big help to the England midfielder having licence to go forward.

However, it appears that fellow new signing Eze could also hold a key to Rice getting in the box more and using his physicality to great effect.

Eberechi Eze will also benefit Viktor Gyokeres at Arsenal

Rice is not the only player that will benefit from Eze’s arrival in North London, Gyokeres should also be licking his lips at the prospect of the England international.

Eze’s ability to carry the ball in tight spaces and pick a pass in the final third will be a perfect foil for the Swedish striker.

Anfield might just be the ideal ground for Arteta to test out this new partnership, with Liverpool’s high press there will be plenty of opportunities for Eze to slide passes in between defenders and into the path Gyokeres.

Then, as he showed against Leeds, the 27-year-old has the composure to put the ball in the back of the net.
