Arsenal are on the verge of achieving something special this season.
Mikel Arteta’s side are top of the Premier League table and are also preparing for a Champions League final. If the Gunners complete the double, it would go down as one of the greatest seasons in the club’s history.
However, despite all of Arsenal’s success, some people still refuse to describe this side as a truly ‘great’ team.
Paul Scholes is one of them, and surprisingly, Jack Wilshere is not disputing his point.
👀 TRUE or FALSE: Mikel Arteta will become Arsenal’s greatest ever coach if he wins the PL and UCL titles…
Jack Wilshere agrees with Paul Scholes’ controversial Arsenal comment
Scholes recently took aim at Arsenal by suggesting Arteta’s side would not be remembered as a genuinely great team.
That opinion naturally upset many supporters because of how impressive the Gunners have been this season.
However, Wilshere believes there is some truth in what the 11-time Premier League winner is saying.
The former Arsenal midfielder explained that truly legendary sides are usually defined by sustained dominance rather than just one incredible campaign.

Wilshere suggested that even if Arsenal win the Premier League and Champions League this season, they will still need to continue winning consistently to enter that elite category historically.
Speaking about Scholes’ comments, Wilshere said, as per The Metro: “Listen, right now I agree with him. No, they won’t (be remembered as a great team).
“But if they go on to win this, then they’ve earned the right to then go again and win, go again and win… and if they can do that, that’s when you get remembered.
“It would be a massive achievement for them as a team, as a club. They haven’t won it in 22 years, so they’ll be remembered within the club as the team that brought it back, but then they have to go again.
“I’m sure that Mikel will do everything he can to try and do that.”
Arsenal fans, what’s your message to Paul Scholes after he said this?
Arsenal fans will not like Jack Wilshere agreeing with Paul Scholes
Wilshere’s comments may be logical from a historical perspective, but Arsenal fans simply will not want to hear them right now.
If the Gunners go on to win the Premier League and the Champions League in the same season, this side absolutely deserves to be remembered as one of the greatest Arsenal teams of all time.
Arsenal have not won the league title in 22 years and have never won the Champions League in their history. Ending both droughts in the same campaign would be one of the greatest achievements English football has ever seen.
It would also be even more impressive considering the level of competition Arteta’s side have had to overcome. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have dominated English football for years, while PSG, Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid are among Europe’s elite.
If Arsenal finish above all of them and complete the double, nobody should be telling supporters that this team still has more to prove before being considered ‘great’.
Wilshere probably did not mean any disrespect, but Arsenal fans will understandably feel that agreeing with Scholes massively downplays what this group of players are on the verge of achieving.
