Jurgen Klopp will be so shocked by the transfer news that’s just come from Arsenal

Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp might be wondering what Arsenal are thinking following the latest instalment of transfer news.

The summer transfer window is closed for Premier League clubs, but other markets remain open.

For this reason, transfer rumours are still doing the rounds, with Leandro Trossard linked to a move to Besiktas.

The dust has settled for the most part, which will be music to Andrea Berta’s ears; however, the sporting director has one thing to answer to following a fresh revelation.

Jurgen Klopp could be shocked by how much Arsenal actually sold Albert Sambi Lokonga for

Deadline day was busy for Arsenal, as seven deals were orchestrated, six of which were departures.

While five players left on loan, one left for good, as Albert Sambi Lokonga departed to sign for Hamburg.

Initially, it was understood that Arsenal had earned £10m on Lokonga, but that’s far from the truth, according to a new revelation.

German outlet BILD shared that the actual initial fee, excluding bonuses, equated to just £260,000.

Arsenal fans are understandably bewildered by the news, and another figure who might be stunned is Jurgen Klopp

In a press conference in February 2024, Klopp shared his disbelief that Arsenal had loaned Lokonga to Luton Town.

“When you see Albert Sambi Lokonga playing and you think… oh! He’s an Arsenal player, and they loaned him? Interesting.”

In that moment, Klopp couldn’t quite believe that Mikel Arteta was willing to part ways with Lokonga, making his reaction to his less-than £1m sale all the more interesting to imagine.

Arsenal could be shown up by Lokonga’s exit fee

Klopp was one figure who recognised the talent Arsenal had in Lokonga, and he wasn’t the only one.

Speaking to Rio Ferdinand for Retro FIVE in 2021, Vincent Kompany compared Lokonga’s playing style to Yaya Toure’s.

“The first thing I did when I saw Sambi is I went to Mikel and said, ‘You’ve got to watch this guy, he’s the new Yaya Toure.’” Kompany said.

Four years down the line, and Lokonga has been offloaded by Arsenal for a humiliating fee, a price that might just come back to haunt the North Londoners.

Still only 25, there’s plenty of time for the Belgian to reach the heights he was proposed to reach at Arsenal, something that could unnerve those in N5.
