Jurrien Timber might have the answer to Arsenal’s major Declan Rice problem

Mikel Arteta has a problem with Declan Rice, as Arsenal don’t have an alternative to their star midfielder.

Christian Norgaard was signed in the summer to replenish Arteta’s midfield options, but the Dane is nowhere near Rice’s level.

Given how important Rice is to Arsenal’s form, the idea of not having a worthy backup in his role could turn a nightmare into reality.

There could, however, be an answer that Jurrien Timber can vouch for, as the Arsenal defender’s twin brother, Quinten, is hot property in central midfield.

Arsenal would be smart to look at Quinten Timber as backup for Declan Rice

Arsenal just signed twins Edwin and Holger Quintero, and Andrea Berta could stun everyone and repeat the feat with the Timbers.

Though there are no links between the Gunners and Quinten Timber, exploring a move could be genius.

Currently managed by Robin van Persie at Feyenoord, Timber is one of the best-performing midfielders in the Eredivisie this season.

As his per 90 numbers from the 2025/26 Eredivisie season show, the 24-year-old has so much quality in areas that Arsenal see Rice thrive every week.

Van Persie is well aware that he faces a struggle to keep Timber in his squad, as the midfielder is in demand heading into the January window.

To add even more intrigue to the idea of Arsenal reuniting Timber with his twin, Quinten is out of contract at Feyenoord next summer.

Now could be the perfect time to approach Timber

Timber was a talking point before, during and after Feyenoord’s most recent win over PEC Zwolle, as the crowd unveiled a banner regarding his uncertain future.

Speaking in a post-match press conference following Feyenoord’s win, Van Persie also touched upon Timber’s situation.

“We’d love for him to stay, but you need two parties for that. I think it’s part of the game for a player to give interviews. I think he should do that more often.”

There’s a lot of uncertainty regarding where Timber could head next, which just might tempt Arsenal into doing some work on their right-back’s twin.
