Man Utd just proved why Roy Keane’s scathing attack on Mikel Arteta and Arsenal was really foolish

Manchester United legend Roy Keane recently took aim at Mikel Arteta and Arsenal.

Arsenal came under fire from some quarters for the tactics that Mikel Arteta employed in their recent clash with Manchester City.

The Gunners were reduced to ten men at the Etihad Stadium, as Leandro Trossard was sent off for delaying a restart just before half-time.

With his side 2-1 up at the break, Arteta sent his players out with a defensive remit in the second half. The North London outfit sat deep, restricted space, sought to soak up pressure and break up the game.

This ploy almost paid off to perfection. The Gunners held the reigning champions at bay for more than 50 minutes with this approach, before John Stones’ last gasp equaliser in the 98th minute ensured that the match finished 2-2.

Micah Richards hailed Arsenal’s defensive effort. However, Roy Keane took a different view of Arteta’s tactics.

Keane called Arteta a “dinosaur,” claiming that the negativity his side showed was unworthy of a club with title-winning aspirations.

Roy Keane’s Arsenal comments made to look foolish

Keane’s former club, Manchester United, were in action against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford yesterday.

Already 1-0 down, Bruno Fernandes was sent off for the Red Devils just before the break. Erik ten Hag’s side did not entirely shift their focus to defending after his dismissal, and were pulled apart in the second half.

Manchester United ultimately slumped to a 3-0 defeat. By contrast, despite being down to ten men against arguably the best team in the world on their own patch, Arteta was able to avoid such a demoralising defeat by altering his game plan to suit the state of the match.

The Manchester United boss did not make this adjustment and paid the price with a confidence-sapping defeat. Whilst ten Hag may not be called a dinosaur by Keane, the Dutch coach is under extreme pressure and may be facing the sack.

In light of this, Keane’s attack on Arteta now looks more misguided than ever.

Mikel Arteta cannot be distracted by media attacks

Bukayo Saka has claimed not to care about criticisms of Arsenal’s tactics in the past, and that must be the stance that everyone at the club takes.

Arteta will not be disheartened or swayed by comments in the media, and cannot allow his players to be distracted or stung by such distractions either.

Considering the fixtures they have faced, and injury issues they have had to contend with already this season, the Gunners have made an excellent start to the campaign. The best way to answer any and all critics is by being crowned champions at last.
