Erling Haaland will be the danger man when Manchester City take on Arsenal in the Premier League.

The Norway international has been involved in altercations with a few Gunners stars in the past. Haaland even had a go at Mikel Arteta, infamously telling him to ‘stay humble’.

Arsenal have since got the better of Manchester City, beating them 5-1 in their last meeting at the Emirates Stadium in the 2024/25 campaign.

Haaland has been in great form so far this season, and he will not be easy to stop. But Arteta could use some mind games to get into the striker’s head.

Mikel Arteta could start Myles Lewis-Skelly to ruin Erling Haaland’s game in Arsenal vs Man City

Myles Lewis-Skelly had his breakthrough season at Arsenal last campaign, and he was brilliant.

The teenager made the left-back spot his own and even made his senior England debut in that position under Thomas Tuchel.

Everyone felt that Lewis-Skelly would keep his place in the starting line-up this season as well, but Mikel Arteta has preferred Riccardo Calafiori so far.

However, on Sunday, the Arsenal manager could give Lewis-Skelly the nod – not just because he’s a great player but also to disrupt Erling Haaland’s game.

At the Emirates last season, Lewis-Skelly copied Haaland’s celebration to mock him after the striker had a go at him in the reverse fixture.

The Manchester City striker definitely didn’t like that, and Lewis-Skelly’s presence on the pitch could force him to try harder than he needs to on Sunday.

That could disrupt his game, which would then allow William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes to contain him without too much difficulty.

If that works, Arsenal’s chances of victory will increase significantly.

What Erling Haaland said about Myles Lewis-Skelly mocking him

Lewis-Skelly came under a fair bit of criticism from pundits for mocking Haaland, but he was absolutely right to do what he did.

The striker humiliated him at the Etihad by questioning who he was. The Arsenal youngster remembered that when they met again, and he got his revenge.

Haaland kept his thoughts to himself for a long time after that, but over the summer, he finally broke his silence during an interview with Time magazine.

“If he wanted to use that moment to mock me, that’s fair enough for him,” Haaland said about Lewis-Skelly’s celebration.

“Whatever he wants to do, he can do.”
