Premier League ‘ref cam’ footage has revealed just how powerful Viktor Gyokeres’ shot was for his first goal against Tottenham; now Arsenal need to encourage him to shoot more.

Arsenal’s 4-1 North London Derby win will live in the minds of Gooners for a very long time.

I, myself, have been captivated by Gyokeres’ goals against Spurs, as the Swede delivered two finishes that were typical of a lethal goalscorer, something Arsenal have been starved of.

Fans have watched every angle; slow mo, sped up, you name it, so when the Premier League dropped their ref cam footage of the match, supporters got a glimpse of what it was really like to be on the pitch.

Premier League ref cam footage shows how powerful Viktor Gyokeres’ first goal was against Tottenham

Gyokeres’ second goal was brilliant, but it was his first strike that left fans, and Tottenham, spellbound.

Based on this footage, what was your favourite goal Arsenal scored against Spurs?

The ref cam footage showed just how powerful the effort was, as despite Guglielmo Vicario being well-positioned and having sight of the shot, Gyokeres put so much power behind it that the Italian had no chance.

You can see just how close Vicario is to the ball when the shot came close to him, but there was still no hope of him stopping it.

It was a show of tremendous ball-striking of the highest order, and now, Mikel Arteta must demand more of the same from his striker.

Mikel Arteta has to encourage Viktor Gyokeres to shoot from distance more

Arsenal are actively looking at Gyokeres’ poor duel-winning rate, but the club also need to revise his positioning in attacking sequences.

The Swede’s positioning was under question before; however, the North London Derby exaggerated the need for him to be in positions to shoot from a longer distance more often.

Who from the current top five will Viktor Gyokeres outscore in the Premier League this season? 👀

Data provided by The Athletic after the win at Spurs revealed that Gyokeres enjoys shooting from different angles.

In fact, the striker doesn’t just enjoy it more; he’s more successful at it, scoring more to the left of the goal from an average distance of 12.4 yards.

His average shot distance has increased, albeit very marginally, since January 31st, and since then, he’s scored five times from eight shots, compared to his three goals from 31 shots prior.

Armed with confidence, Gyokeres needs to take more shots on, and with Arteta armed with the evidence to show how deadly his striker can be, the boss should revise his tactics.
