Mikel Arteta now has best chance to achieve feat that not even Arsene Wenger could do at Arsenal

Arsene Wenger is Arsenal’s greatest-ever manager.

The legendary Frenchman spent over two decades in North London and completely changed the face of the club. He made Arsenal a global brand and one of the most successful teams in the world.

Mikel Arteta is now doing a phenomenal job at Arsenal, but he’s still far way from being on the same level that Wenger was on.

However, the current Arsenal manager has the opportunity to do something that even Wenger never managed to do in his 22 years as the Gunners boss.

Mikel Arteta could end 32-year Arsenal drought this season

Wenger won 17 trophies during his time as Arsenal’s manager.

The Arsenal legend won three Premier League titles, seven FA Cups and seven Community Shields and cemented himself as one of the greatest managers of all time.

Arteta will have to work extremely hard and achieve truly great things to surpass Wenger’s legacy, but there is one thing he can do this season that the Frenchman didn’t manage in 22 years – win the EFL Cup.

Arsenal are in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup now and have drawn Crystal Palace at home, which is a very winnable fixture.

To add to that, Manchester City have been knocked out of the competition, as have Chelsea. One of Manchester United and Tottenham will be out in the next round as well.

Wenger never won the EFL Cup – the last time Arsenal lifted that trophy was all the way back in 1993.

If Arteta can win it this season, he will become the first Arsenal manager to lift the EFL Cup in 32 years, which would be a great achievement.

Which club is Arsenal’s biggest threat in the EFL Cup?

Arsenal are now the favourites to win the EFL Cup following Manchester City’s elimination from the competition.

However, football is a funny game and anything can still happen.

Arsenal’s next hurdle in the EFL Cup is Crystal Palace. That is a game Arteta will feel is a comfortable one, especially as it’s at home.

The six other teams left in the competition are Tottenham, Manchester United, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Brentford and Southampton.

Half of the above teams will be out in the quarter-finals, which further reduces the difficulty for Arteta’s side as they hope to go all the way in the competition.

We think Liverpool will be Arsenal’s biggest threat in the EFL Cup this season. If the Gunners can get past them, it’s Arteta’s trophy to lose.
