It seems as if it’s time for Arsenal fans to give up on a huge January arrival, Mikel Arteta simply doesn’t have the funds to play with.
In an ideal world, Arteta would probably like to bring Ivan Toney to the Emirates alongside a world-class midfielder for the number six position.

But reality sees Arsenal seeking a short-term loan deal for a versatile defender who can offer cover at the back.
Fans are more likely to see a Kim Kallstrom type signing arrive rather than a superstar akin to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this month.
That being said, a quiet January should preclude an incredibly productive summer.
And if reports are to be believed, that is when Arsenal will finally try to sign Toney from Brentford, a deal that should then make sense for all parties.
However, that still leaves the door open for a Thomas Partey replacement.
The Ghanaian will then have just 12 months left on his deal, and is widely expected to leave.
And with that mind, there’s one signing Mikel Arteta could make that would make a huge difference at Arsenal.
Yes, Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz would be welcome, but Benfica star Joao Neves is Europe’s next best number six.
Joao Neves has huge potential, he would flourish under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal
19-year-old Neves is often labelled the next Rodri, a player who is still slightly understated at Manchester City.
Perhaps Rodri is the only midfielder currently stronger than Declan Rice in the Premier League.

And if Neves can reach that bracket of player, it’s clear why £103m shouldn’t be an issue this summer.
Well known agent Jorge Mendes did explain today that Benfica have now had contact regarding Neves, even if he won’t be leaving this month.
And although he’s not going anywhere for now, that should ring alarm bells for Arsenal.
With an improved warchest this summer, Neves presents a huge opportunity for Arsenal and Arteta.
And a midfield three of Neves, Rice and Martin Odegaard really would set up Arsenal for the next decade.
And on the topic of not missing out on players, Rio Ferdinand has now been urging Arsenal to sign a certain forward before it’s too late.
There’s clearly a ton on the agenda for the Arteta once the season is concluded, and Neves should be a priority.
