The Premier League title race is taking shape, with Arsenal set to have a battle with Chelsea and Manchester City to claim the top spot in May.

So much can happen in the blink of an eye in the Premier League, but one constant this season has been Arsenal.

Having suffered just one defeat in their opening 12 games, the Gunners look like the real deal, but they’re not alone in the title race, with many wary of Man City in particular.

Some have predicted that Arsenal will get nervous about being chased by Man City, though even Pep Guardiola knows there’s one major difference between the Gunners and his side right now.

Manchester City’s lack of squad depth highlighted by Pep Guardiola after Champions League defeat

In previous years, Man City set the benchmark for having a squad packed with incredible talent, something Mikel Arteta learned from.

Now, the tides have turned, as Arsenal are the ones blessed with squad depth, while Man City are the team in transition.

Such was highlighted after Man City were beaten 2-0 at home by Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League, a game in which Guardiola made ten changes.

Speaking to the media after the defeat, the Spaniard admitted that the mass change he made was ‘too much’, noticing the difference between his starters and his backups.

Manchester City’s reliance on Erling Haaland

“Without him, it would be tough to be honest.”

“I think the biggest threat to Arsenal is Erling Haaland. Not so much Manchester City, really. If there was anything to happen to him, you know, for any length of time, maybe four to six weeks, maybe if he had an injury, I don’t think there’d be any way that Manchester City could win the title.”

“Maybe it was too much. Seeing the results. I think they played looking to not make mistakes and not to do what you have to do,” Guardiola told the media.

The Man City boss was forced to look at his bench early into the second half, making five changes before the 65th minute, but even they couldn’t reduce the deficit.

“We have weapons on the bench, but honestly, it didn’t work, and we have to accept it,” Guardiola said, dejectedly.

Gone are the times when Guardiola seemed to have world-class talent on tap, and now, Arsenal must take advantage.

Arsenal must prey on Man City’s reliance on Erling Haaland

Arsenal’s squad depth is unlike any other Premier League club, giving the Gunners the upper hand in the title race.

There is, however, something that can’t be ignored about City, and that’s the threat that Erling Haaland could pose to Arsenal’s title hopes.

The striker has already scored 19 goals this season, but that in itself is a problem for Guardiola.

Haaland is responsible for 55.8% of City’s goals in the Premier League and Champions League, a split in responsibility that is completely unsustainable.

Guardiola’s challenge is to get the remainder of his squad on Haaland’s level, and Arsenal must remain close to determine if that’s possible or not.
