Mikel Arteta has a few selection dilemmas going into Arsenal’s game against Tottenham Hotspur.

A number of the Spaniard’s men have performed brilliantly in recent weeks, but with some injured players returning to action, competition for places is back again.

One player whose spot is under threat is Leandro Trossard, and his country’s media have had a go at him ahead of the North London Derby.

What is your prediction for the North London Derby?

Belgian media slam Arsenal star Leandro Trossard

Trossard is a very unique player.

The Belgium international has come up with some incredible moments for Arsenal since he joined them in January 2023, and he remains a key part of the squad.

Trossard can do things that many others can only dream of, but he does have his moments when he looks like he isn’t interested.

The latter is what Voetbalkrant in Belgium have a problem with, and they have had a real go at the Arsenal attacker because of his international performances.

“He remains an enigma with the national team: no national coach has found the perfect recipe for Leandro Trossard to perform and excel for the Red Devils. And he’s faced serious competition in the meantime.

“Not that Trossard lacks merit, of course. He’s been with the team since 2018, has already collected 50 caps and scored 11 times.

“Those eleven goals mostly came in matches against smaller teams and in easy victories: two against Belarus (8-0), one against Burkina Faso (3-0), two against Poland (6-1), one against Estonia (5-0).

“Whenever the pressure is on him in the absence of the absolute stars, he can’t really pull the team along. He disappears into the rest when he should be standing out. This was also the case in Kazakhstan, where the intention was to give him the ball as much as possible. However, he didn’t get enough out of it.”

Leandro Trossard’s stats show he should start for Arsenal vs Tottenham despite criticism

Trossard is at risk of getting dropped for Arsenal’s game against Tottenham.

That’s because Martin Odegaard is fit again and could come straight back into the starting lineup. Eberechi Eze could then be moved to the left-wing position.

However, we think Trossard should keep his place in the side, and the stats back that claim.

The 30-year-old has eight direct goal contributions in nine starts for Arsenal this season. He has also scored and assisted four goals in his last five starts.

Trossard’s performances for Belgium may not be great, but he has been very good for Arsenal and deserves to keep his place in the side against Tottenham.
