Arsenal are now the absolute favourites to win the Premier League title.
Almost every pundit on the planet backed Liverpool to retain their crown after seeing them spend close to half a billion in the summer transfer window.
Arne Slot’s side looked really strong on paper at the start of this campaign and even beat Arsenal at Anfield. But they have lost four games in a row in the Premier League.
Despite that, Pep Guardiola has not changed his mind about the defending champions.
Pep Guardiola’s verdict about Liverpool should worry Arsenal
Guardiola is the greatest manager to ever grace the game.
The Spaniard has achieved immense success at every club he has managed. He was responsible for the Barcelona super-team at the start of his career and has since won several trophies at Bayern Munich and Manchester City.
Guardiola knows more about football than most others, which is why his comments about Liverpool and the Premier League title should worry Arsenal.
In an embargoed section of his press conference that was released after Liverpool’s defeat at Brentford, the City boss claimed that Slot’s men are still the ‘main favourites’ to win the title this season.
He said, as relayed on HaytersTV: “In the Premier League, I don’t have the feeling now that Arsenal will drop many points. Liverpool as well.
“Now, Liverpool lost the last games, not in the Champions League in Frankfurt, but (in the Premier League). But I saw the game against United, and they had incredible chances to win the game.
“I think Liverpool remain the main favourites to do that.”
Arsenal could now go seven points clear of Liverpool
As we said above, Guardiola’s comments were before Liverpool’s defeat to Brentford on Saturday night, but the Spaniard’s opinion is still very valid.
The gap between the top two right now, ahead of Arsenal’s derby against Crystal Palace on Sunday, is four points, which is nothing.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 8 | 6 | 1 | 1 | 15 | 3 | 12 | 19 | |
| 2 | 9 | 5 | 2 | 2 | 11 | 7 | 4 | 17 | |
| 3 | 8 | 5 | 1 | 2 | 17 | 6 | 11 | 16 | |
| 4 | 9 | 5 | 1 | 3 | 15 | 14 | 1 | 16 | |

| 6 | 9 | 5 | 0 | 4 | 16 | 14 | 2 | 15 |
A Gunners win against Oliver Glasner’s side will push them seven points clear of the Reds, which would give them a massive boost in the title race.
However, a couple of bad results can change everything for Arsenal, especially as Liverpool are capable of going on a long unbeaten run once they return to their best.
That is why Guardiola’s comments are worrying, but Arsenal can only deal with what’s in front of them, and Mikel Arteta should be delighted with the position his side are in right now.
