Piero Hincapie was one of Arsenal’s best creators against Tottenham, even beating Eberechi Eze in that regard.

Eze was Sol Campbell’s Man of the Match against Spurs, as the attacking midfielder handed Tottenham even more misery in the North London Derby.

For all of Eze’s mastery at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, he didn’t do enough in the playmaking department to outperform Hincapie.

It sounds fake, but it’s true, as the Arsenal defender’s statistics against Spurs revealed just how much of an attacking presence he was on the left side.

Piero Hincapie created more chances for Arsenal than Eberechi Eze against Tottenham

Hincapie was one of Arsenal’s better performers against Wolves, scoring his first goal for the Gunners at Molineux.

The Ecuadorian knew he had to build on that performance if he were to stand out in the North London Derby, and he did just that.

Hincapie played three key passes against Spurs to showcase his playmaking qualities, which was more than both Eze and Bukayo Saka’s tally in the game.

Saka and Eze both created two chances, with only Jurrien Timber being able to match the three that Hincapie racked up.

On a day that saw several members of Arsenal’s defence lose focus, Hincapie stood out, being Arsenal’s unsung hero when the stakes could not have been higher.

It was a top performance from Hincapie, and one that was even sweeter given that he could’ve been on the other side.

In the summer transfer window, Tottenham actually offered more than Arsenal for Hincapie, but it was always understood that the 24-year-old preferred a move to N5.

It’s a sentence that Spurs heard twice in the summer, as Eze also rejected them in favour of moving to the Emirates.

It was somewhat poetic that two of Arsenal’s standout players against Spurs in week 27 were Hincapie and Eze, who reminded Tottenham of what they’re missing.
