Yet again we have been proved right here at arsenalinsider.com after pictures of the new home kit surfaced confirming we had it almost spot-on all those months ago when we were first to reveal the design.
>As we said, the kit takes a bow to the early 70s with its simple, back-to-basic, old style shirts and no-fuss socks and shorts. Admittedly we did have an idea that the new crest would be replaced by a simple cannon but it seems the club realises just how important the current crest is in terms of branding…can’t have it all.
You’ll remember we also got it right when we announced that the new away kit would be yellow and maroon…come on you rhubarb and custards!
Manufacturers Nike claims the new kit is manufactured using new technology that is environmentally friendly. Their blurb says every shirt is made entirely from recycled polyester, crafted from up to eight plastic water bottles as part of Nike’s ‘Considered Design’ programme, which sees discarded plastic bottles diverted from landfills to be used in the manufacturing process.
It seems the players have had their say. Thomas Vermaelen said: “I really like this new kit. It’s the typical colours for Arsenal, white and red, and it’s really nice. Every club has their own traditional colours. For Arsenal it’s red and white and that’s the way it’s supposed to be. It’s good I think, these days the environment is really important for the world and it’s good that Nike cares about that.”
And no doubt commenting from a beach in Barbados and thanking the Lord above he wasn’t involved in the pile of shite that is England, Theo Walcott said: “The colours are very traditional, it feels nice and it’s made from recycled plastic bottles so what more can you ask for?”
The kit officially goes on sale from Thursday July 29, but you can pre-order it now from the official site and through its other outlets.
