Stats show Mikel Arteta who should be Arsenal’s new striker – there is one clear candidate

Arsenal are actively seeking forward options in this January transfer window in order to give Mikel Arteta some more firepower in front of goal.

Bukayo Saka is out until March with a hamstring injury and Arsenal have then been hit with the devastating news that Gabriel Jesus requires surgery on a ruptured ACL.

Ahead of the North London Derby, a lot of the worry for Arsenal fans has been how the team are going to score, following a host of missed chances against Newcastle and Manchester United in previous games.

Martin Odegaard created a record ten chances in the match against the Red Devils but he and his team mates were equally as guilty for not taking them and ultimately it cost the Gunners as they crashed out of the FA Cup.

Arsenal have been linked with a host of attacking names in recent weeks but Mikel Arteta needs to choose the right profile to fit his Arsenal side.

Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko and Dusan Vlahovic all linked with Arsenal

Arsenal have been linked with three striker targets in recent days. Viktor Gyokeres has been described as ‘perfect’ for the Gunners amid reports he has a €100m release clause that could be triggered.

Benjamin Sesko is being considered as a replacement for Gabriel Jesus with the Slovenian striker subject to interest from Arteta’s side in the previous transfer window.

Arsenal are also open to moving for Dusan Vlahovic with the Juventus man out of contract in 18 months and the Italian side reportedly open to offers.

All three options would add something to this Arsenal side and all are a powerful presence in the lone striker role, something that Arteta is missing with Kai Havertz not a natural forward.

Gyokeres outperforms Sesko and Vlahovic this season

It is imperative that Arsenal get their recruitment right in such a key area of the pitch and the decision could make or break their chances of silverware this season.

Whilst Gyokeres is valued as the most expensive target and is the oldest, experience is clearly shining through for the Swedish international as he outperforms both Sesko and Vlahovic in a number of key attacking metrics this season.

The sheer volume of goals and ability to move at pace and power should alert Arteta to the opportunity in the market to improve his Arsenal squad.

Whether a deal can be struck for any of these targets remains to be seen but what is clear for fans and everyone associated with the club, Arsenal need help in attacking areas.
