Arsenal star Viktor Gyokeres was Sweden’s national hero during the international break.

Graham Potter’s side had to win their games against Ukraine and Poland to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Not many people gave Sweden a chance, especially with Dejan Kulusevski and Alexander Isak both ruled out of those games.

However, Gyokeres stepped up in both games and has almost single-handedly led his country to the World Cup.

Iconic Viktor Gyokeres photo emerges after Arsenal star leads Sweden to the World Cup

Sweden looked down and out after finishing bottom of their group in the World Cup qualifiers. They didn’t win any of their six games.

It seemed almost certain that they would miss out, but Viktor Gyokeres had other ideas.

The Arsenal striker has been criticised all season, some of which has been really unfair, but he stepped up when his country needed him the most.

In the semi-final of their qualifier playoff, Gyokeres scored a stunning hat-trick to help Sweden beat Ukraine.

After the game, the 27-year-old stood in front of hundreds of Swedish fans and did his iconic celebration.

What was fantastic to see was that almost every single person in the crowd was doing the same celebration behind him, thus creating one of the most iconic pictures in Swedish football history.
