Unai Emery’s Arsenal suffered yet another defeat, this time against a Liverpool side stacked with kids. The Gunners blew their lead three times and eventually succumbed to a defeat on penalties. Questions over Emery’s management surfaced yet again and the criticism is now stronger than ever.

Just four wins out of the first 10 games was never going to sit well with the fans but the style of football on show has further dampened the mood in and around the Emirates. Emery is definitely under pressure and is struggling to turn things around but sacking him now would bring out one major problem.

Arsenal are a massive club, one where the style of football is just as important as the results. Sadly, there aren’t many available managers who can come in and have an immediate impact while playing beautiful football.

The two biggest names available at the moment are Jose Mourinho and Massimiliano Allegri. The former Chelsea man has had his fair share of issues with Arsenal over the years and appointing him would, in ways, go against our values.

A serial winner like Mourinho would, without doubt, improve our results and push us closer to the top two teams. However, our attacking style of football will be as good as dead with his appointment which poses the question of whether the results are more important than the club’s identity.

Allegri’s style is also quite similar to Mourinho but the Italian doesn’t have the same experience in the Premier League. Either way, any new appointment could cost us the top four due to the time that they will need to get the players to understand their philosophy.

Emery should be given two more weeks

Arsenal shouldn’t jump the gun just yet. Games against Wolves and Leicester in the next two weeks should be Emery’s last chance to prove his worth.

With another international break coming up after the game against the Foxes, the time would be right for a new manager to come in and get two weeks with most of the squad which would help ease the process of settling in with the squad.
