Arsenal could be set to make one of the most exciting signings of the summer.
Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal looks like it could be on the cards. The Brazilian midfielder has told Newcastle he wants the move, and a transfer could be imminent.
In many ways, it doesn’t need explaining just how good of a deal this could be.
Guimaraes is one of the Premier League’s best midfielders already, and, despite Brazil’s early exit, he was one of the best creators at the World Cup too.
However, there’s another element of this signing that could be seen as a huge positive for Arsenal.
💰 Bruno Guimaraes is turning 29 in November and has TWO years left on his contract… How much should Arsenal pay to sign him?
Bruno Guimaraes move could end Newcastle spell as Arsenal bogey team
Arsenal know first-hand how good a player Bruno Guimaraes is as he has often been a thorn in the Gunners’ side.
Indeed, Guimaraes has put in some fantastic performances against Arsenal over the years, notably winning Man of the Match in both the 2021/22 season and the 2024/25 season in wins against Arsenal.
In fact, Guimaraes has a very good record against the Gunners to say that Arsenal have been one of England’s dominant teams in recent years.
| Bruno Guimaraes’ record vs Arsenal | |
| Games | 9 |
| Wins | 4 |
| Draws | 1 |
| Losses | 5 |
Two of these upset wins came in seasons where Arsenal probably should have won the league, and who knows? Perhaps if those games go differently, Arsenal have another title under their belts.
Newcastle have been a bogey team for Arsenal in recent times, but that may end now.
The likes of Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and, of course, Guimaraes himself have been thorns in Arsenal’s side over the years – saving their best performances for Mikel Arteta’s men, but, now, that era is over.
Guimaraes may well be the last man to go from that quartet, and while Newcastle will try to build again and continue their record against Arsenal, this may well be the end of an era for The Toon.
Guimaraes joining Arsenal doesn’t only strengthen the Gunners, it makes one of their most consistently difficult opponents weaker in the process, and that’s an underrated aspect of this deal.
