Three reasons why Arsenal should sell Gabriel Martinelli and two to keep him amid Bayern Munich transfer interest

Gabriel Martinelli is a player of interest this summer, as Arsenal face a potential exit for the winger in the transfer market.

The Brazilian faced a mixed 2024/25 campaign, and looking ahead to the 2025/26 season, it’s shaping up to be an important one for him and the Gunners.

It’s unclear whether that campaign will be at Arsenal or not, as Gabriel Martinelli continues to be linked with an exit.

Bayern Munich are showing transfer interest in Martinelli, as their search for a left-wing option steps up.

So, with that said, here’s a look at a few reasons to keep and sell the winger this summer.

Reasons Arsenal should sell Gabriel Martinelli

Gabriel Martinelli’s struggles last season

One reason for a potential move away from Martinelli could be down to his struggles for Arsenal last season.

The winger faced difficulties when he was taking on his opposition full-back, sometimes turning around and recycling possession, rather than driving on to displace them.

Thierry Henry criticised Martinelli for that exact reason, with some concerns over whether he can find his best form once again.

Opens space for another left-wing signing

If Martinelli were to leave Arsenal, then it could well open up a space for another left-winger to join the club.

It’s no surprise that the Gunners have been in the market to add another wide option to the team, given the lack of goals last season.

However, with concerns over how they could compete with Martinelli, his exit could open up the position for the new arrival.

It’s unclear who could join to fulfil that role, though, as Andrea Berta continues to search the market for solutions.

Sale value could hit record-breaking levels

Arsenal’s record transfer sale is just £35 million, which is particularly low compared to their rivals.

Martinelli certainly promises to be an option to break that threshold, given his quality and age profile, which could fetch plenty more than that.

Some will hope that a deal bordering on £70 million is possible, which could set a new record for the club, while also showing that the Gunners are capable of selling at the right price and at the right time.

Why Arsenal should keep Gabriel Martinelli

Showed signs of improvement

As Arsenal’s form improved at the back end of the season, so too did Martinelli.

The winger showed signs that he was back to his best, able to be direct and capable of causing havoc to the opposition backline.

It may prove that he is capable of being that player again, which could get Arsenal over the line in their silverware pursuit.

Used to Mikel Arteta’s system

Comparing Martinelli to other players who could replace him, the winger is simply used to the system in place from the manager.

Considering the tough start Arsenal have this season, he is able to hit the ground running, compared to his potential rivals.
