Arsenal’s hopes of signing Julian Alvarez seem more unlikely than ever now.
The Gunners have been linked with several big names over the last few months, but none more so than the World Cup winner.
Arsenal’s chances of signing Alvarez have always looked slim. The player’s dream has been to join Barcelona, while the finances involved have been outrageous as well.
Now, Atletico Madrid CEO Gil Marin has broken his silence, and his comments should convince Arsenal to look elsewhere.
What is the highest fee you would pay to sign Julian Alvarez for Arsenal?
Is he worth more than Declan Rice?👀
Arsenal should give up on their Julian Alvarez dream
Julian Alvarez is one of the most valuable players in world football.
The Argentina international was already a star at Manchester City, but he has gone to another level since joining Atletico Madrid.
That is why the Rojiblancos are desperate to keep hold of him, so much so that they are even prepared to reject record offers.
Atleti CEO Marin said recently, as per The Sun: “I have no doubt that Atletico is the place in the world for Julian Alvarez and that Julian is the perfect striker for Atletico.

“We don’t want to transfer him; we won’t accept the €100m (£85m) offer, nor will we accept one for €150m (£127m) or €200m (£170m).”
This has been Atletico Madrid’s stance all along, even though Alvarez has publicly hinted that he would like to leave the club.
Yes, things could yet change in the coming months, but Arsenal should hear Marin’s words loud and clear. If even £170 million is not going to be enough, there is no point dreaming.
Arsenal should give up on their pursuit of Alvarez and reassess if another elite striker is available.
Imagine you are Andrea Berta. Who is your top target for Arsenal in the summer transfer window?
Arsenal may not sign another striker this summer
Alvarez would definitely be a game-changing signing for Arsenal, but it really does seem impossible that this move will happen.
As a result, we have a feeling the Premier League champions may decide against signing a centre-forward in this window.
Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz will be at the club next season, while there have been no buyers for Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus yet – both can play up top.
Even incoming signing Christos Tzolis can do a job as a false nine, so there is no real need for a new striker unless it is someone elite, like Alvarez.
It will be interesting to see what will happen in the next six weeks, but if we were to predict, we think Arsenal will end the transfer window without a new number nine.
