What Fabio Vieira did immediately after embarrassing Lionel Messi sums up his entire Arsenal career

Lionel Messi is not the only big name at the Club World Cup — Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira is also taking part in the competition.

The versatile attacker was sent out on loan to Porto last summer, and an agreement was reached at the time that allows him to play at the Club World Cup.

Vieira impressed many Arsenal fans with his performance against Inter Miami on Thursday night, but we feel he still left a lot to be desired.

One moment in the game explains why.

What did Arsenal loanee Fabio Vieira do after embarrassing Lionel Messi at the Club World Cup?

Fabio Vieira started in central midfield when Porto took on Inter Miami at the Club World Cup.

The Portuguese playmaker has produced a few impressive performances throughout his loan spell, and he showed off his brilliance on Thursday night too.

Vieira’s quick feet, control over the ball, and ability to get out of tight spaces were definitely eye-catching, especially to Arsenal fans who were watching the game.

At one point, he even pulled off a brilliant nutmeg on the greatest player of all time, Lionel Messi. It really was a beautiful move.

But, what happened immediately after that was extremely frustrating.

Right after getting past Messi and into a lot of space, Vieira made a meal out of what looked like a simple pass and kicked the ball straight out of play.

That just sums up his Arsenal career — Vieira has all the quality in the world, but he just struggles to be consistent with his performances.

Fabio Vieira deserves another chance at Arsenal but there’s a problem

Vieira’s performance against Inter Miami and throughout his loan spell at Porto has shown that he is a really talented player.

An argument can be made that Vieira has done enough to get another opportunity at Arsenal as a backup to Martin Odegaard, but that’s easier said than done.

Ethan Nwaneri is waiting to get opportunities in his favoured number 10 role, while young Max Dowman is also expected to get senior minutes next season.

Bringing Vieira back would block the paths of Nwaneri and Dowman, which would not be ideal at all, especially when Arsenal need them to commit their long-term futures to the club.

As harsh as it may seem, Arsenal should cash in on Vieira while his stock is high.
