Who Arsenal’s new vice-captain is has just become perfectly clear during AC Milan clash

Arsenal’s vice-captain during the 2024/25 season was Jorginho.

The Brazilian was by no means a regular starter at the Emirates, but he donned the captain’s armband whenever he was on the pitch and skipper Martin Odegaard wasn’t.

Jorginho left Arsenal before the end of his contract to join Flamengo, and he played for them at the recently concluded Club World Cup.

The former Chelsea man is settling in nicely there, but his departure means that Arsenal need to name a new vice-captain.

An official announcement hasn’t been made yet, but we think Mikel Arteta has made his decision.

Bukayo Saka could be Arsenal’s new vice-captain

Arsenal took on AC Milan in the first game of their pre-season tour of Asia.

Arteta named an interesting lineup at the Singapore National Stadium, with many key stars getting the nod to start.

However, skipper Odegaard was named on the bench, and all eyes were on who would wear the captain’s armband.

To many Arsenal fans’ delight, Bukayo Saka led the team out and started the game as the skipper.

That suggests that Arteta may have decided that the Hale End graduate deserves the step up and is now the new vice-captain of the club.

Saka has previously donned the captain’s armband in the past, but it was always when the likes of Odegaard and Jorginho were unavailable.

Now, with the Italian gone, it makes sense for Saka to get the recognition.

The other options to become Arsenal’s new vice-captain

If you ask most Arsenal fans, they will choose Saka to be their new vice-captain, but there are a couple of other options.

Gabriel Magalhaes is one of them, and the Brazil international has donned the armband on a few occasions in the past.

The other one is Declan Rice. Everyone who has worked with the Englishman has raved about his leadership skills, and he was West Ham’s captain before he joined Arsenal as well.

Both Rice and Gabriel are good options, but our vote goes to Saka – he has been at the club longer, is arguably the best player, and he completely deserves it!
