Unai Emery’s job as Arsenal boss has been under scrutiny for quite some time now. Rumours have come in hot that the Spaniard is on the ropes and that he could face the sack soon.
Luis Enrique and Jose Mourinho were said to be the favourites to take over from Emery but that isn’t the case anymore. The former Barcelona man confirmed that he will return to take charge of the Spanish national side while Mourinho has taken over at Tottenham.
That rules out two huge candidates to take over which might give Emery some breathing space for the coming weeks. However, Emery will be shown the door if the same problems persist and a familiar face could replace him.
Mikel Arteta was heavily rumoured to be Arsene Wenger’s successor but Arsenal preferred the experienced option. However, with Emery struggling, the former Gunners skipper could well come back to contention and this time as the favourite.
Learning his trade under two of the greatest managers in world football – Arsene Wenger and Pep Guardiola, Arteta’s football knowledge is unquestionable. One of the Premier League’s smartest ever players, he will be an interesting appointment but is he our best option?
Arteta over Allegri?
Massimiliano Allegri is the other massive name currently available but his appointment will not be simple. The Italian will demand a transfer war chest and most fans won’t agree with his philosophy if he takes over.
Arteta, on the other hand, will bring back beautiful football but his inexperience as a manager is the biggest issue. However, after over two years under Guardiola, he is more than capable of stepping up and there is no doubt that Arsenal fans will welcome him with open arms.
Arsenal should seriously consider the possibility of appointing Arteta if Emery’s misery continues. The 37-year-old is an Arsenal man through and through and he knows what it takes to represent our great club.
