Speaking on Soccer AM, Arsenal star Mohamed Elneny has labelled his teammate Bernd Leno as ‘one of the best goalkeepers in the world’.

The German, signed by Unai Emery in 2019 for £19 million (Guardian), has had his ups and downs at Arsenal. He has had moments where he looked unbeatable, but he has also had periods where his performances were nowhere near the level required.

He became the centre of criticism at one point last season, with some pundits claiming that Arsenal have to replace him this summer. However, if Elneny’s words are anything to go by, there aren’t many goalkeepers better than him in world football.

He said: “For me, he’s (Leno) one of the best goalkeepers in the world now. As a person as well, he’s really kind. He works really hard in training and he always listens to improve himself and he trains really hard as well.”

Should Arsenal sell Bernd Leno?

There has been a lot of speculation about Leno’s future in recent weeks. Some reports have even claimed that the Gunners are ready to sell the German if the right offer comes in.

Arsenal only really have one goalkeeper at the moment. Yes, Alex Runarsson is also there, but we all know that he is nowhere near ready to feature for Arsenal on a regular basis.

Arsenal simply cannot afford to sell Leno until and unless we bring in a top quality replacement. Andre Onana has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates and he is excellent. However, he’s banned till November.

Keeping hold of Leno, at least till January, is the best thing for Arsenal. He is still more than good enough to be our number one, and someone like Onana breathing down his neck will only make him better.
