Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny spoke to the media ahead of his side’s second leg clash against Olympiacos on Thursday.
The Egyptian wasn’t expected by anyone to be a part of Arsenal’s squad when he returned from his loan spell at Besiktas. He got a chance in the Community Shield under Mikel Arteta, and a good performance there convinced the Gunners boss to keep hold of him.
It is safe to say, Elneny has been brilliant for us. He hasn’t been Arteta’s first-choice in the middle of the park, but whenever he has played, he has impressed everybody.

Arsenal now have a decision to make about his future. The Egyptian will enter the final year of his contract this summer, and if Arteta doesn’t fancy him anymore, we will have to sell him to avoid losing him for free.
Elneny was asked about his future and the former Basel man put the ball in Arsenal’s court. He claimed that he is ready to sign a new deal if Edu and Arteta offer him one in the coming months.
Asked if he dreams of signing a new deal. he said, as per Football London: “Of course. For me, I always loved Arsenal. If Arsenal said to me sign a new contract, of course I will be happy to do this.”

Arsenal Insider’s view:
It really is a no brainer, isn’t it?
Elneny is a brilliant squad player. He always works hard for the team and never throws a tantrum when he doesn’t get a regular run of games.
The Egyptian is a manager’s dream and his performances this season surely warrant a new contract. However, he will turn 29 this summer and that might be the only reason why Arsenal decide against extending his deal beyond the end of next season.
