Brentford striker Ivan Toney has been firing shots at Arsenal ever since his side picked up a shock victory over the Gunners on the opening day of the 2021/22 Premier League season.
Mikel Arteta’s men were woeful at the Brentford Community Stadium last month. It just looked like we weren’t ready and the Bees deservedly got the better of us and picked up their first win in the English top-flight.
Toney has been very vocal about Arsenal since after the win. Immediately after the game, he claimed that the Gunners make mistakes when pressed. He has followed that up with other comments as well, but he may have just gone a bit too far with his most recent statement.

Ivan Toney: Arsenal won’t win anything soon
The Brentford striker said on Baller Talk: “Arsenal fans are going to batter me for this, but you see Arsenal at the moment and they’re not the best. There was a difference (between the Championship and the Premier League), don’t get me wrong, but it wasn’t crazy like: if you make a mistake, it’s going to end up in the back of the goal. I didn’t really see that.
“They were good at keeping the ball, but it didn’t really affect us. They weren’t as crazy as I thought (they would be). I don’t know if it was (whether) they weren’t so good or we were just excited as it was our first game and it was Arsenal and Premier League (and) all these things coming into the picture.

“I just didn’t see them how they used to be. You used to look at Arsenal and think (they were) crazy and they were going to win this game, win this game. These days, I don’t see them winning nothing any time soon.”

The Insider’s View:
Toney and Brentford were really pumped up for their first game in the Premier League and they deservedly got the win. However, they played an Arsenal side who were hit with the infamous virus a day before the game and were without as many as 10 first-team players.
Yes, that should never be used as an excuse after a loss to a newly-promoted side, but that’s the reality. Brentford deservedly won the game and every Arsenal fan will hold their hands up and admit that. However, Toney has gone a bit too far here and it may just be because we snubbed him this summer.
The Express reported back in January that Arsenal were keeping an eye on Toney. Multiple reports backed that claim as well, but after the summer window opened, rumours only linked the Gunners with moves for the likes of Lautaro Martinez, Alexander Isak and Tammy Abraham.
Toney wasn’t even an option and that may just be the reason why he’s a bit salty now.
