Chelsea and Brazil defender Thiago Silva has raved about Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli and the ‘little bit of arrogance’ he has about him.

The 21-year-old made Brazil’s World Cup squad and he’ll be hoping to get an opportunity against Serbia tonight. Silva, on the other hand, is almost guaranteed to start.

Thiago Silva says Arsenal star Gabriel Martinelli has ‘a bit of arrogance’

Martinelli has been magnificent for Arsenal this season.

The youngster has started almost every game for us on the left flank, and he has been terrorising defenders – just ask Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Arsenal fans are absolutely delighted with how well Martinelli has been playing this term. His compatriot and London rival, Silva, has been impressed too and has just raved about him.

The veteran, who knows a thing or two about shining at the highest level, is convinced that Martinelli will not be fazed by the occasion if he plays for Brazil against Serbia tonight.

He told The Mirror: “You can see the connection they’ve had this season with Arsenal – it’s a big reason why they’re top of the Premier League. Jesus, we’ve known about his quality for a long time, but Martinelli is really showing what he’s about.

“He’s playing without fear and, if he gets the chance to play, I don’t think it will faze him and he’ll just do what we know he can do.

“I think all attacking players at the top level need that little bit of arrogance – that they know they can do something special – and he has that.”

All the great players have a bit of arrogance about them. From Thierry Henry and Ronaldo Nazario to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, they’ve all shown that over the years, and that has been a big factor in their greatness.

Martinelli is one of the nicest guys at Arsenal, there’s no doubt about that. However, he definitely has that arrogance on the pitch that makes him a really dangerous player.

The 21-year-old is unlikely to get a lot of playing time at the World Cup this year because of Brazil’s incredible attack.

However, if Silva is impressed by how Martinelli has trained, perhaps Brazil boss Tite is too, and he may get a run out against Serbia tonight.
