Arsenal skipper Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has sent a classy message to Bukayo Saka after the young Englishman’s penalty shootout heartbreak against Italy at Wembley last night.
The Three Lions couldn’t have started the game in a better way. Luke Shaw gave them the lead inside two minutes and they were undoubtedly the better side in the first half. However, Italy came back after the break.
The Azzurri equalised through Leonardo Bonucci in the 67th minute and forced the game to extra time and then to penalties. England started brilliantly thanks to the two Harry’s – Kane and Maguire – but things didn’t quite go to plan after that.
Youngsters Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Saka were given the humongous responsibility of saving the side. Sadly, all three of them failed, and the Arsenal man, who took the decisive fifth penalty, would be hurting the most.
Aubameyang sends a brilliant message to Bukayo Saka
Aubameyang, who has seen almost everything at the top level, took to Instagram to lift Saka up. The Arsenal skipper told his young teammate that his bad moment from last night will surely act as a building block to his success in the future, and we couldn’t agree more.
Auba said to Saka: “Proud of you my lil bro. This will build your success, you will see.”
People often question Aubameyang’s qualities as a captain, but that message alone shows how much of a leader he is. Saka needs all the support he can possibly get now, and a message like that from his skipper will do him a world of good.
Saka is now expected to have a few days off after what has been an exhausting 18 months for him. He should be back for the start of the Premier League season next month, and this experience with England will surely increase the hunger in him to prove his doubters wrong.
Mikel Arteta should be careful with Saka. He can’t just rush the teenager back in, he should be given all the time he needs. Once he’s ready, there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that he will set the Premier League on fire next season.
