Goal’s Arsenal correspondent Charles Watts has had his say on Mikel Arteta’s reported interest in Real Betis star Nabil Fekir.

The journalist himself broke the news that Arsenal are considering a move for the former Lyon man if we can’t agree a deal to sign Martin Odegaard permanently in the summer transfer window. (Goal)

Watts has reiterated the same on his YouTube channel and he is adamant that the links connecting Arsenal and Fekir are ‘absolutely true’.

He said: “They’re true. As far as I’m aware, speaking to a couple of people that I absolutely trust, they (Fekir to Arsenal links) are absolutely true. Arsenal are looking at him.

“He’s not the priority as far as I’m aware, Odegaard is, but Arsenal have to have back up options and one of them is Nabil Fekir, who they have been watching for a while.

“He’s got two years on his contract and has just changed agents. It’s an option, I’m not saying Arsenal are going to do it, but it’s an option.”

Should Arsenal sign Fekir?

The priority has to be Odegaard and Arsenal should do everything possible to get him on a permanent deal. However, if Real Madrid decide against selling him, Fekir would be a decent option.

The Frenchman has proved his quality in Ligue 1 as well as in La Liga. He can score, assist and link play up brilliantly, and the fact that he is available for only £26 million this summer makes him one to keep an eye on.

Fekir’s teammate Borja Iglesias labelled the Frenchman as “the most exquisite player I have ever seen”. (Speaking to Alberto Edjogo-Owono on YouTube)

That is a huge compliment, and if Fekir can come in and be more exquisite than some of the players we’ve had at Arsenal over the years, he would undoubtedly be a phenomenal signing.
