Former Premier League defender Jamie Carragher was in awe of reported Arsenal target Yves Bissouma after the Mali international’s stunning performance against Everton on Monday.
Football London have revealed plenty of times that the midfielder is on the Gunners’ wish list. He is reportedly an Arsenal fan as well, and it has been suggested that he wants a move to the Emirates this summer.
Mikel Arteta needs more options in the middle of his park. Apart from Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny, Arsenal might not have any experienced central midfielders in the squad next season.
Dani Ceballos will return to Real Madrid, while nobody knows what will happen to Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Joe Willock beyond the end of their respective loan spells.
Bissouma would certainly be a brilliant signing for Arsenal. He has been incredible for Brighton for a while now, and if Arteta watched his display against the Toffees, he would’ve been just as impressed as Carragher was.
The Liverpool icon said on Sky Sports after the game on Monday: “The biggest bright spark was the performance of Bissouma, who was man of the match. But not just the best player on the pitch, the best player by a mile on the pitch.
“You looked at him and thought he really does look like a top-quality player. He was excellent at Old Trafford as well last time out, and he just looked head and shoulders above everyone on the pitch.
“He’s been someone a lot of teams have looked at or talked about. I don’t think teams will be looking at him, I think teams will be bidding for him.”
The Insider’s View:
But Football Club revealed in January that Brighton valued Bissouma at £25 million. That fee is surely higher now after the Mali international’s incredible performances in the Premier League over the last few months.
Bissouma would be many Gooners’ dream signing. On paper, him and Partey would form one of the best midfield partnerships in the country, and if he is available this summer, Arsenal should do everything possible to get him.
However, if the 24-year-old continues to perform as well as he has done in recent weeks, more clubs will come in for him, and that will be bad news for Arsenal who don’t quite have the resources that some of the other big sides have at their disposal.
