Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin has boldly claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are a more attractive club than Arsenal at the moment.
Both the Gunners and Spurs have struggled in the Premier League over the last few years. Arsenal completely dropped out of Europe last season, while Tottenham made it into the Conference League by finishing above us by one point.
The two North London sides are not where they want to be at the moment, but the rivalry is still fierce. That is why Arsenal fans will not like what Austin decided to say on TalkSport.
Charlie Austin makes controversial Arsenal and Tottenham claim
Speaking about Arsenal’s decline over the years, Austin said: “They’re going down a slippery slope. They keep changing manager and then, after about ten games, not good enough.
“They can’t wait long enough, ‘We need trophies now.’ Everyone needs trophies, don’t they? Unfortunately Arsenal look miles behind the eight-ball and they’ve got no chance.
“Spurs are definitely more attractive than Arsenal, wouldn’t you say? I just think, with what they have got and the squad they have got, if you were a manager thinking about what you need to do to get either Arsenal or Tottenham higher up the league, I’m going for Tottenham.”
Jack Wilshere angered by Austin’s comments
Wilshere is Arsenal through and through. He absolutely loves the club and isn’t afraid to admit it in public.
The Englishman, who is still yet to find a club, is a regular on TalkSport these days. Apart from featuring as a pundit there, he also seems to be an avid listener. As soon as he heard Austin’s claims about Tottenham being more attractive than Arsenal, Wilshere decided to send an angry text message to host Andy Goldstein.
The TalkSport host said: “Jack Wilshere listening in is not happy with you saying Spurs are more attractive. I can’t read out what he has just said, but he is not happy.”
Are Spurs more attractive than Arsenal?
Everybody is entitled to their opinion and so is Austin, but his claim makes no sense whatsoever.
The QPR star first says that we keep changing managers. We’ve had three in about 25 years, so he’s wrong from the very start.
Secondly, in terms of the squads, neither side have a team capable of dominating the Premier League. However, Arsenal battered Spurs in the North London derby earlier this season and we did that with the youngest squad in the English top-flight. That shows our future is brighter than theirs.
Finally, every player wants to win trophies. Tottenham haven’t won one in over a decade, while Arsenal, despite ‘going down a slippery slope,’ have won four FA Cups and four Community Shields over the last seven years.
Arsenal fans are definitely not happy with where we are at the moment, but we’re certainly glad that we’re not Tottenham, who will never be a more attractive club than us.
